Three Months Later...

Fast forward three months.  Did I mention this has been the busiest year of my life?  Honestly, I don't know if I ever plan on blogging regularly but it is nice to get my thoughts out there once in a while.  So, what has changed in the last four months that warrants a blog post?  Weeell, and I thought this was big enough news, I haven't been sick for 4 months!!!  I've been around sick people.  Rob got terribly sick and I didn't catch it.  Somethings up!!  That's right.. something major.  My speculation is this.

 1.  I have been avoiding dairy like the plague I believe it is.
 2. I have been maintaining a HIGHLY ALKALINE diet.  Mind you I have not been keeping a perfect diet by any means.  Plenty of treats and bready delights have snuck in, but I balance them out with the healthy ALKALINE things like:

1. Drinking 60oz of water EVERYDAY.  Drinking enough water everyday is THE MOST alkalizing thing you can do.
2. Drinking really GREEN SMOOTHIES with SPIRULINA up to three times a day.  Greens and green superfoods make it possible for your blood to uptake oxygen.  Oxygen = Alkaline period, end of story.
3.  Limiting my consumption of grains, nuts, fish, poultry, overt fats and obviously NO dairy.  I still splurge on ONE coffee nearly everyday and feel like I can get away with it:-)  True Love!  Contrary to popular belief, coffee is actually neutral on the ph scale.  Hurray hurray!  And it's bursting with antioxidants, so it's a powerful medicine that should NOT be misused by being overused.

Honestly, I haven't really been doing anything else major.  No supplements or special herbs.  No secret potions or ancient healing rites.  Just plain old ALKALIZATION.  Over the years I've searched for the ultimate optimal diet, and I even used to own the book the PH Miracle.  I think that title was a pretty big name in health books.  His is message was great, but I never took the message to heart, and rather regarded the info the same as the Blood Type Diet.  It just seemed contrived and I thought, who can really determine what foods are good for each blood type?  I mean, is this science, or a hoax?  The ph thing was similar for me, partly because he mislabled so many foods.  He was calling nuts alkaline, and soy products, and even some grain products alkaline.  I'm sorry, but all of those foods are acidic.  Anyways... after learning which foods are actually alkaline (from David Wolfe), and realizing what effect this had, I applied the theory to my own diet that focuses on fruits and veggies and it has helped me tremendously.   I'm a huge advocate now.  You can learn exactly which foods are acid or alkaline by googling the Kap-nac chart by Sapoty Brooks.  There is also a shortened version of it in David Wolfe's book Sunfood Diet Success System.  In my opinion that was one of the most thoughtful, inspired, inspirational, blatant and effective books on health ever written.  I still recommend it to this day.

So there you have it!  How I started NOT getting sick in a nut shell.

Favorite new Winter Berry Cookie Smoothie:  It really tastes like cookies to me!!
1-2 Frozen Bananas (depending on how active you plan to be)
1 Ripe Apple, cored and cut up
1/2 Cup frozen Mixed Berries
4-5 Dandelion Greens
2 Leaves Curly Kale or 4 Leaves Dino Kale
1/2 lb Baby Spinach.. yes you read that right;-)
1tsp Spirulina Powder (I like Healthforce Nutritionals)
10 Drops Vanilla Stevia
1Cup Vanilla Almond Milk
Squirt of Agave Nectar

Blend.  I like to pour it in two stainless containers.  I'll usually drink 1/2 in the morning, then half between 3-5pm.

Enjoy!
